16x2 and 20x4 Alphanumeric LCD Displays are dirt cheap these days. Hence, they become very popular among electronics DIYers. There is one potential problem though when using one with your microcontroller (gizDuino/Arduino) projects- they require quite a number of I/O's - seven to be exact. Once you have installed an LCD, you are left with just a few I/Os for other uses.

The I2C interface board installed in this LCD eliminates this limiting factor. It connects to your microcontroller using just 2 I/O ports assigned to I2C, leaving you with 5 more I/Os to spare.
